Vision: We wanted a red, white, and blue nautical-themed bedroom.

Bedding: It took some searching and waiting to find patterned coverlet sets available in both twin size and full size that would appeal to children or adults. Coverlets are lightweight for summer use, and patterned prints camouflage signs of wear. Less bulky than comforters, coverlets wash easier and avoid the post-wash struggle to reinsert a duvet. The accent pillows and shams included help give the room a finished look.

Pyramid Bunkbed: The red, metal bunk bed creaked so we replaced it with a sturdier one in white. Including a full/double bed option in the bunk bed room leaves this room versatile, suitable for children or adults. We purchased locally in Kitty Hawk at OBX Furniture.

Paint: We decided on dark blue walls to offset the white furniture and compliment the knotty pine doors and baseboards, selecting Behr English Channel in matte sheen from Home Depot.
